Road closures / use of a state road for a public event

If you would like to find out more about using a state road for a public event, please visit the Transport Services website.

Please note that any road closures for an event will require Tasmania Police approval, in addition to approval from the Department of State Growth for the placement of traffic management signage on State roads.

This information also only applies to roads owned and managed by the Department of State Growth.

For information about road closures on local roads, please contact the relevant council or other road owner. You can access an online map showing who owns each road.

Notify Tasmania Police of your event

If you're organising an event that is likely to draw a crowd, it's recommended that you notify your local police station in advance. This helps ensure public safety and allows police to support your event if needed.

Steps to Follow:

  1. Find Your Local Station
    Visit police.tas.gov.au/contact-us to locate the police station nearest to your event.
  2. Send an Email Notification
    Email: tasmania.police@police.tas.gov.au
    Subject Line: Attention: [Name of Local Police Station]
  3. Include These Details in Your Email:
    • Event location
    • Event dates
    • Estimated number of attendees
    • Any security concerns or risks

A member of Tasmania Police will follow up with you to discuss your event further.
