HEALTHY EVENTS - festival food, the Acts, facts and formulas

November 25th 2009

Join us for this essential workshop on Wed Dec 9, 10.30am  to 1pm at Drysdale House, 59 Collins St Hobart.

All events and festivals must adhere to the Food Act and the Public Health Act, failure to do so may result in food being seized, stalls closed  and events cancelled.

To avoid this a comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory requirements is advised.

By attending this workshop you will hear from two of Hobart City Council's prominent Environmental Health Officers (EHO's), they will run through the essentials for inspections and preparations.

Paul Cullen the Food Co-ordinator of the Taste of the Huon will share his experiences of running a world class food festival and sourcing the stall holders and produce locally.

Eat Well Tasmania will present on best practice for healthy events and also run through the Healthy Events Tasmania Guide.

What we will cover:

  • Compulsory Public Health requirements for temporary food stalls
  • How these relate to the Place of Temporary Assembly
  • Inspection checklist
  • Protection of food and food handling
  • Mandatory stall requirements
  • Festival planning for food and infrastructure
  • Providing healthy and easy choices
  • A food stalls of choice register

Who should attend: anyone who organises an event, or would like to and councils or suppliers who work with events .

involvement would entail a 15 minute presentation and then participate in a panel discussion where we will use some events as case studies

Speakers:
  • Paul Cullen, Food Co-ordinator Taste of the Huon, Director Antarctic Midwinter Festival and Chef/Owner Cullen's Bakery and Deli
  • Felicity Edwards Senior EHO and Sally Chamberlain EHO,  Hobart City Council
