Hawthorn played its third game at Aurora Stadium
2012 is the 12th year of Hawthorn playing AFL Premiership season home games in Tasmania.
Hawthorn will play one more game in Tasmania, as part of its agreement with the Tasmania Government, on Sunday 12 August 2012 against Port Adelaide.
Major events such as the AFL games in Tasmania provide an important boost to the state’s tourism industry, which has been identified as a priority sector in the government’s Economic Development Plan.
The Hawthorn Football Club is also involved in a number of community programs such as:
‘Tassie Hawks in Schools’
‘McDonald’s Tassie Hawks’
‘SportsAbility’ hubs at the University of Tasmania campuses at Launceston and Hobart
The Club has also assisted with capacity-building within the sport sector with presentations to sporting organisations on how to run a successful club.
They attended community forums around the state to provide advice on how sporting organisations may become more successful and provide sustainable services to their communities.
The Tasmanian community has shown its resounding support for the HFC through membership. Current total HFC membership is almost 59 000 of which over 8 500 are Tasmanian members.
The 2012 season is the 12th year of the HFC playing AFL premiership season games in Tasmania. There have been 40 games for AFL premiership points played at Aurora stadium.
