Could your event win an Australian Tourism Award?
Two categories in the Tasmanian and Australian Tourism Awards are specifically designed to recognise excellence in the events sector - ‘Festivals & Events’ and ‘Major Festivals and Events’.
Tasmania recently received a record haul of awards at this year’s Australian Tourism Awards. The 2012 awards are being hosted at Princes Wharf No.1 in Hobart in February 2013.
You may not initially see your event as having a ‘Tourism’ focus, yet with the support provided by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania(TICT), through a workshop program explaining exactly what the awards mean and how to make a submission, you may be looking at a wonderful opportunity to showcase your event on the national stage.
The support takes the form of workshops that will walk you through the required formal submission question by question. There will also be mock-judging which gives you a chance to get the judge’s feedback before you submit your entry. Workshops will be held in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, with the potential to expand to other regions with sufficient interest.
Aside from the business development opportunities that come with in-depth analysis of an event, the completed submission makes for an impressive business case to put forward with funding applications and the achievement of winning an Award is a great selling point to potential sponsors.
